Dr. Garcini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University and a Faculty Scholar at the Center for Mexico and the United States at Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University. Dr. Garcini obtained her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University/University of California San Diego (SDSU/UCSD) and a combined Masters of Public Health (MPH) with concentration in epidemiology from the SDSU Graduate School of Public Health. She holds two additional Master’s degrees in her areas of expertise. Broadly, Dr. Garcini’s community efforts, advocacy, research and teaching focus on identifying, understanding, and addressing the health and social needs of historically marginalized immigrant communities, particularly undocumented immigrant, refugees, and asylum seekers. Her commitment to work aimed at informing best practices and social justice for marginalized immigrants is evident in her track record of publications, presentations, awards received, and funding allocated. Her work and advocacy efforts have received widespread media coverage in avenues such as Univision, Telemundo, CBS, Medical News Today, U.S. News and World Report, MSN, Global News Report, and the Oprah’s Book Club, among others.
