Dina Birman, is a Professor of Educational and Psychological Studies at the University of Miami, School of Education and Human Development. Dr. Birman is an expert on the psychology of immigration, particularly refugee mental health, acculturation and adaptation of immigrants and refugee children, youth, adults, and families. Dr. Birman has conducted research on refugees from varied countries, including the former Soviet Union, Central America, Somalia, and Vietnam; and has studied mental health interventions with diverse refugee youth. As a community psychologist, she explores these topics from an ecological perspective to understand characteristics of the schools and receiving communities.
